SUMMARY:My Seaside Garden – an evolving project
DESCRIPTION:Dan first moved to Broadstairs from London eighteen years ago and set about transforming his small courtyard garden into a space that welcomes both wildlife and friends. He has opened his garden as part of the National Gardens Scheme in the past\, to widespread admiration\, but\, Dan says\, “It remains a work in progress!” \nIn recent years he has become a well-known face on the Thanet horticultural scene\, selling a range of seeds\, tools\, clothes\, furniture and accessories from his website and at plant fairs. He sends out a weekly newsletter giving topical garden advice and inspiration – any of you who are not already signed up might want to register to receive it (sign up on his website). \nIf people wish to order items from his website in advance of the talk\, Dan will bring them to with him on the evening (email Dan at hello@dancoopergarden.com) He will also have a selection of smaller items including seeds\, gardening gloves and tools available to purchase on the night. Cards accepted. \nDoors Open 6.45\, talk starts at 7pm\, £3 members\, £ 5 non-members\, cash on the door.

SUMMARY:Creating a wildlife-friendly pond in your garden
DESCRIPTION:Our speaker Deb says “It is relatively easy to construct a wildlife pond in a garden.  The ponds can be very small or as big as you like\, are pretty cheap to build and attract wildlife to your garden.  Importantly\, they can also be made child-safe without ruining access for the garden birds and creatures\, which will be uppermost in the mind of those with children or  grandchildren.” \nDeb will be showing us photos of how she constructed the pond in her garden – and perhaps more importantly\, of the final result\, showing the mature pond and the wildlife that it attracts. She will also talk us through the various options available\, including the use of solar powered components for extra “green” credentials. \nDeb started gardening ‘by accident’\, when she needed to find work and discovered that where she was living ‘people were always looking for help in the garden’. Starting off undertaking basic garden maintenance\, Deb then moved on to establish a full design-and-build service\, with landscaping and full planting services. \nShe adds “The ponds just arrived after that and since then they have become increasingly popular.”
